Using a Furminator for Your Long Haired Pet Cat

Whether your pet is a horse, a ferret or a long haired cat, you will most likely truly appreciate the benefits of owning a Furminator. This is a tool that pulls off dead, loose hair from the undercoat of animals, which leaves the top coat intact. Contrary to what pet owners believe, it does not clip fur the way a clipper does.

Your Pet Persian

Okay, so your pet cat is the most regal cat in the block.  His long hair is so glossy and always looks polished.  You’ve heard it said in whispers by other pet cat owners that you, perhaps, bring your cat for grooming weekly.  But of course you don’t!  After all, why pay for that when you can do it yourself, right?  The thing is, your Persian cat has long hair and brushing is a daily routine that you need to do if you don't want your pet to end up with a very bad hair day.  And we all know what a bad hair day is!  After all, human beings go through this as well.

The Furminator

You have a cat de-shedding tool, otherwise known as a Furminator.  A de-shedding tool is a brush with soft bristles that gently sweeps away the upper layer of fur already detached from your cat’s skin.  This is hair that is ready to fall but has yet to be untangled itself from your pet.  This hair, if not brushed away, turns into the dreaded fur ball.  Yes, your pet feline licks itself almost the whole day.  After all, cats are known for their cleanliness which is why their tongues are course.

Long Haired Cats

But for long-haired cats such as Persians and Himalayans, extra help is needed simply because their hair can be a mouthful.  A de-shedding tool will not hurt your cat because the brush is not pulling hair out.  This tool is just removing hair that is already free.  With long hair, tangles do happen.  For your pet kitten or cat, this can be the cause of matting and thatching.  Just to be on the safe side, do not brush right away from head to tail.  You need to section of areas and gently brush away.  After having brushed away all sections, the extra hair will be removed.  Your pet will be purring beautifully in grateful recognition that it will not have to cough up a fur ball or two caught in its tongue.  This Furminator is all about thinning the thick hair of your pet, not cutting it and is considered an essential tool for pet cats with extra long hair.
