Pfizer is currently running a humorous TV advertising campaign here in Australia for Revolution for Dogs and Revolution for Cats. Here is the TVC for the Dog Revolution.

The ad really focuses on the benefits of Revolution for your dog. It is a good product which is easy to use and gives great coverage, controlling fleas, ear mites, heartworm and most intestinal worms.

There is also a Revolution for Cats TVC currently playing and I will post that on our blog shortly.

VetShopOnline.com sells a full range of Revolution for Dogs and Puppies (and Revolution for Cats and Kittens) at discount prices. Our prices for Revolution for Kittens and Puppies start from just $28.69. To see all our prices on Revolution for Pets, click here.
Recently we published the results of a survey we conducted, on who people would rather be shipwrecked with. It turns out most respondents chose their dog!

56 per cent of respondents to our online survey said they would rather be stranded on a desert island with their dog than a human. Spouses were a distant second (16 per cent), followed by cats (12 per cent), moms (11 per cent) and human best friends (5 per cent).

For us the survey was just a bit of a laugh, but we were delighted when the story was picked up by television and radio media nationally.

What really amazed us was that the story was picked up by media all of the world, including the Czech Republic, Holland and India. I guess it just goes to show that people all over the world are the same, and everyone enjoys a good chuckle now and then.

Our Gift this Christmas

Stable_thumb.jpgOne of the wonderful things about living in the western world is the abundance of "things" that we have the good fortune of having. While we all like getting presents in the holiday time, it's probably safe to say that most of us have more "stuff" than we really need.

Some years ago, the team at VetShopOnline decided that rather than sending presents (more "stuff") to customers and suppliers, we would instead make a gift to a poor or underprivileged community in the name of our staff, customers and suppliers.

Donkey_thumb.jpgWe chose the "Smiles" program operated by World Vision (worldvision.com.au), as it is focused on helping the poorest of the poor, with items that are sustainable, and help break the brutal cycle of poverty. As animal lovers, we choose gifts of farm animals, which help the communities by providing not just food, but also wool, milk & eggs to sell and donkeys and cattle to help till the earth and cart goods.

World Vision also provides the communities with animal husbandry training and support, so that we know that these animals will not just be appreciated, but well cared for as well.

Alive&Kicking_thumb.jpgAlthough the economic conditions have been tough this year, we are proud to say that we have been able to maintain our tradition of giving "just a little bit more" each year. This year, our selected gift was a Stable full of animals (click here to view). This gift will go to a community in Australia's close neighbor, East Timor and comprises of two donkeys, two cows, two goats, four ducks, and six chickens with chicken feed.

We hope our contribution will go some way to helping the families in this community. Click here to read more about the work of World Vision in East Timor.

On behalf of everyone here at VetShopOnline, we wish you, your family, friends, and of course pets, a safe and happy holidays!

10 Tips for Thanksgiving

10 Tips for Ensuring a Happy Thanksgiving for your Pets

Thanksgiving is a time when we all get together and share in a feast with our loved ones. Many people also like to include their pets in their celebrations as they are a part of the family as well. However, holidays can be a stressful and even dangerous time for pets, which is why it is important to follow these 10 easy steps to ensure a happy and safe Thanksgiving for both your and your furry friends.

1. Maintain their regular diet

The best thing to keep your pets happy and healthy during the holiday periods is to maintain their regular diet. If you want to give them a thanksgiving treat then it is best to give them treats made for pets.

2. Resist the temptation of sharing your food
It can be very tempting to give them some of our delicious food, especially as it is a day for sharing, but something as harmless as turkey and gravy can have very negative effects. Feeding pets fatty and rich foods can also cause pancreatitis or gastroenteritis.

10 years!  It can just go by in a flash, can't it?
markandlokki1999.PNG
Our lives were different 10 years ago.  When Mark and Steven founded VetShopOnline 10 years ago, their families comprised just them and their wives and a handful of young pets (in Mark's case, Pearl the Labrador, Jake the Irish Wolfhound Cross and Lokki, the Clinic Cat, for Steven, a young Cavalier King Charles Puppy named Poppy).   In what seems like only a heartbeat, Mark and Steven have seen their families, and their businesses grow. They have 6 kids between them, Pearl, Jake and Lokki are in the great pet playground in the sky and Poppy is a geriatric old lady with arthritis!

Reduce your pet's carbon pawprint

Ok, so everyone is talking "green this" and "carbon footprint that", but don't let the information overload make you forget that there are many easy things you can do to reduce your pet's carbon "pawprint".
globe and puppy.jpg
At VetShopOnline.com we are currently implementing various green initiatives to improve our own performance (stand by for more on this over the next few months). In the meantime, here are some simple steps you can take to help mother nature just that little bit more:

Although we are focusing a lot on dogs and cats in our products and services, reptiles remain one of our top priorities. In 2007 alone, Reptiles were estimated around 13% of household pets ownership.

Ask A Vet consistently receiving a good number of reptile health relating questions. It is another indication that the demand for good products, reliable service and education material is beckoning

To demonstrate how much we do not know about reptiles. Take a look at this video. I love it!.

So be on the look out for expansion on Reptile range in the near future.

Trip to the USA

Dr Mark and I have just returned from a trip to the USA and Canada.

In the US, we spent time in California, Nevada and Arizona and while we have been to the USDSCF2109 (2).JPG many times before, we continue to be impressed by the helpfulness of the people and the beautiful country side. Watching the dolphins and seals off Venice Beach in LA was as real highlight, as was Hoover Dam and  the deserts of Nevada and Arizona, although much to my disappointment we didn't see a road runner (clearly I spent to much time in front of the TV watching cartoons as a kid!).

Recently we held a small staff Christmas party at the office. Actually, it is the second VetShopOnline Christmas party that we had in a week! The first one, we invited all family members of the staff and retreated into the country side for the day.

At the second party, all of the pets were invited.... (to view High Quality click here then click watch in High Quality)
